Emil decides it wouldn't be a bad idea to see if he can find another companion, so he ducks into one of the Bug Branch's encounter areas to see if he can find something that wants to join up with him. Encounter 1/3 (Encounter Skill: Survival)

There are many cool and interesting Bug Pokemon hanging around, but the first one to really catch Emil's eye is a tiny, moving leaf. Curiosity piqued, he goes over to investigate. It turns out it's a Sewaddle!

Now that's interesting. When he catches a glimpse of the little caterpillar face underneath the leaf, he smiles and kneels down to get closer to the Sewaddle's level. "Hey there, little guy. Sewaddle looks up at Emil, frozen in place as it attempts to decide whether he is a threat that needs to be string shot in the face while it flees or if he's a nice human. One small eternity later, it decides he seems like a nice human and turns more fully towards Emil to get a better look.

Emil slowly reaches out his hand, trying not to spook the little bug, just offering a platform for it to crawl onto. "There you go. I'm not gonna hurt you. I can give you a fight if you want but I just wanna make a friend, okay?"
He can't help smiling. "You're a cute little fella, aren't you? Look at that face."

Emil is pretty good at holding still with bugs crawling on him, and he smiles as the Sewaddle starts to climb up his arm. "See, not so scary, right?"
He's going to pretty much carry on making soothing noises as long as it takes for Sewaddle to get comfortable with him... or on him. He can be patient.

Eventually, Sewaddle makes itself at home somewhere near the back of Emil's neck. Guess it's coming along for the ride then.
Sewaddle is Male, level 8, Cuddly, with Designer.

Having examined the job board and discovered the "make a new friend" mission, Emil decides it's as good a place to start as any. He figures it probably doesn't count if it's just inside the building, so it's time to head out into the woods and see what he can find! He likes the woods, anyway. Emil's searching for a Pokémon for the job board, out in the Forest biome. (Encounter 1/3)

There are quite a few Pokemon hanging out in the forest during the daylight hours. There's a Slakoth lazing about in the trees, a Bellsprout soaking up some early morning sunshine, and...oh look! A Scatterbug hidden amongst the foliage!

Emil doesn't quite remember whether the "make a friend" mission specified that it had to be of his Branch's type, but it probably can't hurt anyway.
He peers through the leaves curiously at the little gray caterpillar, not sure how aggressive it's going to be. "What's up, little guy?"

Scatterbug seems surprised that it was seen. It freezes for a moment, as if believing that if it doesn't move, Emil will lose track of it, like some sight-based predators. When he doesn't leave, it slowly turns its head to look at him. It just sort of stares for a bit.

Emil smiles slowly and wiggles his fingers. "Nope, I can still see you. Sorry." He's trying not to laugh - with that one buck tooth, Scatterbugs always have such a goofy expression.
He lays a hand on the branch, offering the Scatterbug an extension to climb on. "Don't worry, I'm not gonna eat you."

The gloop twitches when touched and quickly forms into a sort of amorphous blob with a face. A moment later, Emil finds himself standing before his very own clone. Except with two dots for eyes and a single line for a mouth.
